Community Rowing Club Sydney has been very busy in preparing our new plans for our proposed boatshed on the foreshore of Iron Cove – the first new club in the area in more than 50 years!  We’ve been a bit quiet as we’ve been working behind the scenes, so we thought it would be a good time to give you an update!

Firstly – we have engaged renowned architects Hill Thalis Architecture + Urban Projects Pty Ltd, who have been hard at work developing our updated concept plans to take into account feedback from NSW Maritime and others, and have come up with the wonderful design you see in the above image.

Secondly – we are delighted to thank Michael ‘Misha’ Joukowsky and the Rhode Island Foundation for their extremely generous donation of more than AU$130,000.00 towards the costs we are incurring in the design and development of the new shed – it is incredible to have had the benefit of such wonderful support from a long time friend of the Balmain Para-Rowing Program (our parent organisation)!  We are truly grateful for the faith that has been shown in our vision, and look forward to the next exciting steps!

Thirdly – we have now submitted our plans to NSW Maritime for permission to proceed to a formal application, and are excited to work with NSW State Government and Inner West Council to see this project become a reality.  It has been almost 15 years since our first approach to the then Ashfield Council, but we are now very well advanced and looking forward to the shift from planning to execution.

As everyone knows, it takes years to build an overnight success – watch this space!
