This is Matilda’s sixth year of competing for Sydney Zodiacs and it’s her second campaign for the Australian Junior Auroras at the International Dragon Boat Federation championships, her first was 2015 to Canada as an Under 16. She came home from Canada covered in gold.

Moving forward to 2017 as an under 18 Matilda has just competed in Divonne-les-Barnes where she was honoured by being selected as the indigenous flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony.

Matilda competed in both women’s and mixed events in all boats – 200m; 500m and 2 km. Each event has both 10 and 20 person boats and Matilda was selected to be in both the 10s and the 20s for each distance and for both the mixed and women’s events!
Matilda returns with a silver medal and a record of not finishing any lower than fourth in any event at the championships!

Australia finished the championships with a medal haul of over 16 medals.

Not only has Matilda balanced international selection in dragon boating with rowing but she’s also in her final year of high school and arrives home to sit down next week to her Year 12 trials.

Congrats and good luck next week Matilda.
